About Baltimore-Washington International Airport

BWI AirportForty-five minutes from downtown D.C., just ten miles south of Baltimore, the Baltimore-Washington International Airport – named for Justice Thurgood Marshall – is the destination bargain hunters are likely to see first when they visit our nation’s capital. That’s because budget-friendly Southwest Airlines routes most of its local flights through BWI. Thirteen other airlines serve BWI too, including American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, United, and US Airways; it’s discount favorite AirTran Airways’ secondary hub. With nearly 21 million passengers passing through its terminals in 2009, BWI is the 24th busiest airport in North America.

A free shuttle bus takes passengers to a light rail station about a mile from the main terminal where they can catch trains to Baltimore’s Penn Station (ten minutes) or D.C.’s Union Station (35 minutes.) Hungry? Obrycki's Crab House & Seafood Restaurant – a Baltimore institution – has a branch on Concourse AB. There are ATMs, currency exchanges and stores where you can buy t-shirts that say, “Maryland is for crabs.” And if your plane is going to be a few hours late, eight bucks buys you all-day Wi-Fi access, available throughout the airport.
